Opening the Israeli Room and Awarding Honorary Doctorate to David Bitan at Grigol Robakidze University

On 1 October 2021, Grigol Robakidze University (Tbilisi, Georgia) hosted two important events: the University and the Israeli House mutually opened the Israeli Room, and David Bitan, the member of Israeli Knesset and a friend of Georgia, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Grigol Robakidze University.

In the beginning, Professor Mamuka Tavkhelidze, the Rector of Grigol Robakidze University, addressed the university society and the guests from Israeli. As he pointed out, the Holocaust History course read by Associate Professor Nona Chaturia had been successful at the University for the last two years. The course had been attended by many students and still chosen by 77 new students in the autumn 2021 semester, which proves its popularity. There had been many exciting events related to the course, including the public lectures by Israeli speakers and tours in Tbilisi synagogues and David Baazov Museum of History of Jews of Georgia.

It is noteworthy that the Israeli side also plans to send the most successful students of the Holocaust History course to Israeli academically. Accordingly, there has been an excellent ground to deepen the ties with the Israeli state.

In future, Grigol Robakidze University also plans other academic activities related to Holocaust history studies.
