On January 27, 2021, an event dedicated to the International Holocaust Remembrance Day was held at the “Israel House”, in which Nona Chanturia, Associate Professor of Grigol Robakidze University, participated and delivered a speech on behalf of the university. The event was attended by David Bitan, Chairman of the Committee on Emigration, Absorption and Diaspora of the Israeli Parliament, members of the Israeli community in Georgia, representatives of various universities, NGOs, and religious circles in Georgia.
The event was opened and the participants were welcomed by Itsik Moshe, the founder of the “Israel House”. The participants were addressed remotely by David Bitan, a member of the Israeli Knesset. He expressed his hope that after the pandemic situation is over, he will be given the opportunity to visit Georgia again and participate in events related to the Holocaust and Georgia-Israel relations in an expanded format. The participants of the meeting discussed the importance of teaching the history of the Holocaust in Georgia. In this regard, several Georgian universities play an important role in raising awareness of the younger generation about the Holocaust, genocide, and anti-human theories.
At the end of the meeting, the participants lit candles in honor of the victims of the Holocaust.
