Israeli Lecturer’s Lecture at Grigol Robakidze University

On November 19, 2020, Ms. Avital Zalmanovich gave an online lecture for students of the Holocaust History course at Grigol Robakidze University. Avital Zalmanovich’s father was a prisoner of the Auschwitz concentration camp and managed to survive. After the end of World War II, he actively participated in the construction of the newly founded state of Israel.
The students were welcomed by the author and head of the Holocaust History course, Associate Professor Nona Chanturia, and the founder of “Israel House,” Itsik Moshe. Nona Chanturia spoke about the great importance of the Holocaust course and emphasized the efforts of Grigol Robakidze University to become one of the centers of Holocaust research and education in the region. Itsik Moshe touched upon the existing Georgian-Israeli relations and the great potential for cooperation and thanked the university for its contribution to this process.
After the lecture, a discussion was held, where students asked questions to the Israeli lecturer and expressed their positions on the Holocaust and anti-Semitism.
In order to facilitate the rich academic experience of students in the Holocaust history course, similar activities will continue in the future.
