Opening of Holocaust History Course at Grigol Robakidze University

July 19, 2019

The Holocaust history course ppens at Grigol Robakidze University.

According to the agreement, Grigol Robakidze University will include a course on the “Holocaust History” in its curriculum, and once a year, the best student of the course, selected through a competition, will travel to Israel to hold meetings in the Knesset, ministries, Israeli universities and various important organizations. In addition, the university plans to open an  Israel Room, which will promote the teaching and research of the Holocaust and Israel throughout the country. While anti-Semitism remains one of the most powerful anti-humanist theories and sentiments in the world, the special attention paid to the genocide of the Jewish people in Georgia and the teaching of the essence and uniqueness of the Holocaust to students in the university space was particularly emotional for the Jewish participants of the meeting, who represented the Israeli parliament, business circles and the media. As the founder of the “Israel House”, Itsik Moshe noted that the introduction of the Holocaust history course at Grigol Robakidze University is an extremely important fact. He thanked the university’s rector and the course author for the work done to prepare the course.

The leader of the Knesset’s ruling coalition, David Bitan, expressed hope that the number of Georgian students visiting Israel will increase. He also pledged support to the university.

Israeli Knesset member Osnat Hila Mark welcomed the introduction of the course and wished the university success.

In turn, the university’s rector, Professor Mamuka Tavkhelidze, thanked the Jewish guests for their support and expressed readiness for future, fruitful cooperation. The university has an excellent educational base and academic potential, so that cooperation with Jewish universities and research organizations can be fruitful and beneficial for both parties. In this regard, activities within the framework of the project are planned from the fall of 2019.
